The Young Author Club

"Authors and books can change our world!"

Our coach will assist each club member to write and publish his/her own novel. Member will be provided with guide lines on how to writing a novel that can potentially published by local famout publishers such as the news paper, Chapters, and Indigo. All members' writings will have equal opportunity to be selected and published in local and international digital media.


 
Creative writing instructor Robin Rivers comes to her classrooms with more than 20 years of writing experience. A novelist and award-winning journalist, she brings deep knowledge of the foundations of writing and literary analysis as well as tools with which to draw out your child's creativity.

The Young Speaker Club

"Communication is the key to success!"

This club is coached by national speech competition winners. Our coach teaches club members how to research, articulate arguments, and clarify ideas. Subsequently, all club members actively engaging in debate practics and competitions are often more prepared to speak clearly during interviews, demonstrate a professional presence, and clearly explain ideas and abilities. Indeed, there are many reasons why debating training before post secondary education; one of the important one is well trained debating skill can lead to higher chance in applying top universities!

The Young iBanker Club

The Young iBanker Club is mentored by professionals with over 20 years experience in investment banking and asset management industry. The goal of this young iBanker Club is to help club members to develope strong background knowledge and skill for their future careers in investment banking or asset management industry. The club is divided into 2 groups with different focuses and missions:

The Corporate Finance & IPO Group
This group focuses on corporate finance such as corporate merger and acquisition (the M&A process) and set specific goal to acquire knowledge on how to bring a company IPO in U.S. stock markets like NASDAQ and NYSE. The instructor will train members of this club to develpement hands-on experience/knowledge in M&A and IPO process by allowing club members to participate into real IPO project. When the student has equipped relevant knowledge in M&A and IPO field, each student will be assigned with a role in a live M&A or IPO project. Students then will work with the professional team like Lawyers, Accountants, and Security Under-Writer to go through a 12 months company IPO process.
 
In this group, instructor believes hands-on experience and street smart are the most important things to have. Instructor will organize field trips to visit U.S. top investment banks such as Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and J.P. Morgan; students will be able to find out how the real world looks like in investment bank by observing the day-to-day activities of experts working in investment banks.
 
Objectives and member requirements:
 
  • This groups' learning objective is designed for students from grade 9 or above.
  • Students must have strong motivation to develope career in investment bank.
  • Members must complete weekly writing assignments.
  • Able to travel alone (12 or over) or with assistant from parents for a 5-7 days field trip to visit investment bank offices in U.S., Hong Kong, and China. Potentially participate in ring the opening or closing bell at NYSE or NASDAQ.
  • Interview is required for both student candidates and parents.

The Asset Management Group
This group focuses on asset management or wealth management. Teach students how to manage personal and family assets by constructing investment portfolio that fits into the unique need of each individual or family case.
 
Like the IPO group above, instructor believes hands-on experience and street smart are critical in managing assets. Instructor will organize field trips to exchange investment ideas with investment managers in top investment banks such as Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and other Hedge fund companies. Instructor will also help each member of the club to build a live investment portfolio contain stocks, bond, and cash investments. The goal of constructing a live portfolio is to build a two years track record of investment transactions in different asset classes such as stocks, corporate bonds, government bonds, and money market funds. This portfolio will potentially become a good reference for students' future intern opportunity in investment banks.

  • This groups' learning objective is designed for students from grade 6 or above.
  • Students must have strong motivation to develope career in investment bank.
  • Members must complete weekly writing assignments.
  • Able to travel alone (12 or over) or with assistant from parents for a 5-7 days field trip to visit business partners' asset management firms in U.S., Hong Kong, and China.
  • Interview is required for both student candidates and parents.

The Young Mathematician Club

"Pursuit of Excellence! Mathematics is made of 50% formulas, 50% proofs, and 50% imagination!"

The head coach is a Mathematic Professor with Post Doctor degree and over 25 years' experience in math contest training. The goal of this club is to prepare club members qualified to win good rankings in "National Math Kangaroo Contest", "International Caribou Mathematics Competition", and "Math Contests by University of Waterloo". Our leading coach believes small group learning is more effective; therefore, club members are divided into small sub-groups with max 4 members in each sub-group. Each sub-group will develop individual focuses or strengths in areas such as Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, etc.
 
Our coach will help members to build strong logic modelling system. At the same time, the coach will help each student to develop their own math problem solving techniques. That is NOT for simply calculating in a flash amount of time or memorizing a lot of formulas, but for understanding the logic and reasoning hidden in each math question as well as enhancing their creativity in solving the problems.

Our math head coach has over 25 years of experience teaching math from grade 5-University and preparing students for a variety of math competitions. Dr. Ellen earned her Post Doctor Mathematics Degree in University Alberta.

 
Objectives and member requirements:
 
  • This groups' learning objective is designed for students from grade 3 or above to achieve in math contest on a national or international level.
  • Students may be required to take an entrance exam before enrollment.
  • Able to travel alone (12 or over) or with assistant from parents for a 3-5 days field trip to join math contests in Canada or other countries.
  • Interview is required for both student candidates and parents.
