Introduction
In the 21st century, caring within a specific cultural context is becoming an increasingly significant component in health care. Specifically, health care providers have to demonstrate sensitivity for the care of an ethnic population, and cultural heritage is a significant factor affecting the perception of health, illness and accepted treatment modalities from care service providers and patients (Elliott, 2001).
To address this need, providing cultural competency training has been a widely used strategy to build capacity for health care providers to work across cultural difference (Bearskin, 2011).
Luminix Consulting worked with a team of UBC researcheres in higher education for more than 15 years, did extensive research and developed a supplementary educational training systems ("The Smart Learning Systems") for university students and practitioners.
Along with the technology development in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality, Luminix identifies it is a good timing to develop immersive learning environments through VR, AR, and Mixed VR/AR technology ("The Smart Learning Systems") to facilitate the training in culture care and other possible subjects.
